Belcar Short News 23

Even though the noise of the engines has only just disappeared, speculation and rumours about the upcoming 2006 season are widespread, but the drivers and teams concerned are very careful in confirming the information.

Bert Longin has announced the full return of GLPK to Belcar. The team will again be present over the full season in the Mediagroup Van Dyck Belcar championship. As the Viper and the Pagani are (being) sold, it will be either a Ferrari 550 or a Corvette C5-R. Bert is also sure that the Belcar and FIA-GT calendars will not clash.

SRT is also keen to purchase a second Corvette C5-R. As Patrick Selleslagh’s team wants to run both the French and Belgian GT-championships, a second car would be a relief. Patrick Selleslagh has already tried to acquire chassis number 6, but this car went to PSI.

PSI Motorsport is on the market. All the team’s cars are for sale, as the team is reorganizing after Phiippe Tillie became the co-owner. The newborn PSI actually owns nine Porsches. PSI has confirmed that it will be present again in Belcar next season, with at least two cars: there will be a Porsche Biturbo again and maybe one more potential race winner, but not a Porsche. This line-up, with a surprising and strong driver line-up could be of course hot news but PSI has not yet confirmed further details. The presence of a Porsche Supercup or a Porsche GT3-RSR is also a possible option.

JMT has bought a Porsche Biturbo and will race the car in at least five Belcar races, with two Belgian and one British driver (Mark Cole). A second car for an ex-Formula 1 driver and two former Belgian champions is also an option. This squad would race at least three times in Belcar, plus the Spa 1000K and the Proximus 24 hours of Spa. JMT has also purchased the former Beltoise Porsche Supercup car, which is another possible entry for Belcar. The BMW Z3 Coupé has been sold. A possible JMT driver is Dirk De Sterck, who is aiming to run full season with the team, but he’s still hesitating between First Motorsport, where he drove this year, and with Dirk van Rompuy and JMT.

The eighth edition of the Belcar annual will shortly appear. As was the case with the former editions, there will be full coverage of all the races and an interview with all the champions from each of the divisions, classes and challenges. Every team is represented and statistics and results are of course a main issue in the book. A must for all Belcar fans! This book is available in French and Dutch and will cost €25, all-further info on www.bmr2005.com. The book will also be sold at the head office of the Zolder track and in the petrol station near the race tower.
