Belcar Short News 15 [EN]

Almost a month after the last Belcar news, we’re back. Back to inform you on what’s going on in the paddock and beyond. The main issue for the upcoming weeks will be, of course, the Euphony Zolder 24 hours, on the 27th and 28th of August. Meanwhile, the new and fully updated website www.24U.be is online since the 15th of July. With the event approaching, the website will bring all the latest news and the race itself will be covered live.

Since the 20th of July tickets for the most important Belcar meeting of the season are on sale on www.circuit-zolder.be. While using credit card or home banking, tickets can be printed directly online. Presale weekend tickets are available at € 15 while the tickets on sale during the event itself will cost € 20. All practice and qualifying, held on the 24th and 25th of August, for Euphony Zolder 24 hours is free.

Via www.bongou.be visitors find a list a bakeries where tickets in presale are available. And Luc Gevers’ company, already offering free entry for 4 Touring Cup meetings this year, is now also gaining visibility in Belcar. During the past 24 hours of Spa, the Speedlover Porsche GT3 ran not only in Bongou colours but the Euphony Zolder 24 hours and Praga khan were also visible on the car. This initiative was not a premiere but the Speedlover Porsche GT3 retired with electronic gremlins after a broken belt already damaged part of the wiring.

The Speedlover Porsche driven by Olivier Muytjens, Rafaël Coenen and Roger Grouwels was not the only entry with Belcar drivers in Spa FIA-GT event. One Belcar regular stood on the overall podium: Vincent Vosse. He finished 3rd in a Larbre Compétition Ferrari 550 Maranello together with ea Kurt Mollekens. The GLPK-Carsport Corvette with Longin/Kumpen took 4th in the closing stages of the race followed by the second Larbre Compétition Ferrari 550 Maranello of Fred Bouvy. Without a race incident during the night, caused by under steer, the Corvette of the reigning Belcar champions could have been on the podium. After the race the GLPK-Carsport has been disqualified due to a disconnected data recorder.

Marc Goossens came home in 6th position. Serious brake problems delayed the Aston Martin after a furious start of the British GT. Another good starter was the SRT Corvette, with Marc Duez and Jos Menten. 3rd during the opening hours of the race, driver worries and a double wheel problem made them finish in 9th position.

A great 12th overall and a victory in G2 was the final result for the TT Racing Porsche of penders/Lamot/Couwberghs. 3rd in G2 were de Gastines/Cloet/Van Rossem/ De Laet on a GPR Porsche GT3. Victory in G3 was for Mattheus/Van Bellingen/Geoffroy/Fumal. Markus Palttala finished in 18th together with Lambert/Lefort/André.

Together with the Speedlover Porsche, the Mühlner Porsche GT3 of Vanina Ickx also withdrew. On 11 cars with one or more Belcar drivers, 9 made it to the end and 4 stood on a podium, a very fine balance in one of the toughest races ever.

In the meantime, the entry-list and driver line up of the Euphony Zolder 24 hours is far from completed. GLPK will be present with a fully rebuilt Viper, after the accident in Spa, As FIA-hopes for GLPK-Carsport are now almost over, the team will do everything to win again in the Zolder classic even if there is a FIA-GT round in Oschersleben on the same weekend. Mike Hezemans will stay in Germany, as both Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin will shuttle between Germany and Belgium. We’ll see both the Corvette and Viper racing on the same weekend. Val Hillbrand and most likely Marc Duez will join the team. But the latter still has to be confirmed.

There will no new E46 for Peter Beckers in the Euphony Zolder 24 hours. But the team will race the E36, fully updated and with a brand new engine. “This engine will be used in a BMW Compact next year in the Zolder Touring Cup,” explains the BMW-dealer. MSE will enter the E36 and again Serge Cassiers and father and son Van Samang join Peter Beckers on the drivers list.

The ex-MSE Mondeo, together with the entire infrastructure, has been sold by Hans Leenders to Koen Pauwels. He’s convinced that the car still has a margin of improvement and it even might return to Belcar. But if no drivers are interested, the Mondeo, built by Patrick Selleslagh, will be sold outside Belgium.

Last but not least, AD Sport announces the presence of a brand new Porsche Boxster with a GT3 Supercup engine. This car will be, even if many doubted, on the Grid of the upcoming Euphony 24 hours of Zolder. Jean-François Hemroulle, Tim Verbergt and the master himself will race the little monster. The Wauters-brothers will race their AD-Sport 996 Biturbo together with Patrick Schreurs and Erik Bruynoghe while an atmospheric Porsche 996 is entered for Lémeret/Cloet/Van Den Broeck/Herman. Last but not least AD Sport will also service the Porsche GT3 of Van Craeynest/Grutman/Pelle/Cook.
