8th Pole in a Row for SRT Corvette

Weather conditions were ideal for the first session on Wednesday evening, whereas for the Thursday sessions rain was expected - and it duly arrived. However, during the closing stages of the last session on Thursday the odd numbers took advantage of the fact that the track was drying out. The SRT Corvette had already set the pace on Wednesday with a 1.30.204 on its 3rd lap out, and stayed where it was right through to the conclusion of the last session - on top of the rankings. Markus Palttala, in the PSI-Porsche Biturbo, took 2nd for a good part of the sessions but both the Kuismanen and GLPK-Vipers set better times on Wednesday night. Finally, the flying Finn regained his position on the front row on the drying track on Thursday. So SRT and PSI share the front row for the upcoming Euphony 24 hours of Zolder.

We find two Vipers on the second row, with Kuismanen’s in third and GLPK in fourth, while a bunch of Porsches complete the top 10. Maes / Verbist / Tanghe / Casteleyn set their RS Porsche in fifth, while PSI (Menten / Bouvy / Loix) and AD Sport (Wauters / Wauters / Schreurs / Bruynoghe) took 6th and 7th. Spoils in GTB go to Markant’s Porsche, with Bas Leinders behind the wheel, and the leaders in GTB, Penders / Lamot / Couwberghs / Dujardyn take second. Behind them we find in order of appearance: the Qvick Motors Racing and Belgium Racing Ultima, the AD Sport Porsche of Vanierschot / Verbergt / Hemroulle / Daniels and the S&P-Porsche of Ceusters / Metior / Jacobs / Schrauwen.

The Eurotech Mantis of Noorman / Van Dongen / Euser / Bleekemolen completes the top 10, right behind the top 2 in GTB. The KS Motorsport BMW M3 Silhouette of Van Bellingen set a good performance in 1.37.884 and is 11th on the grid. In Touring, Severich is fastest with a 14th position overall in his GS BMW M3 GTR V8. Other BMW M3s complete the top 3 in Touring with the G&A BMW second and the Beliën one in third. Last but not least, in TB, a last minute pole goes to Van der Kolk / Ambaum / Köhler / Thuis in a BMW Compact. Until a few minutes before the end, the Daikin MINI looked to be about to take the spoils, but the amazons lost it. Third and fourth in TB were the BMW of De Hoen / Essers / Grouwels / Wijnen and Broodcooren / De Coster / Van Asch, leaders overall in the Touring rankings. The main victims of this qualifying were the Thiers brothers. Van Moerkerke hit the wall heavily and the Porsche GT3-RS will not be ready for the race. Entering another car will mean that they have to start in the guest class, without scoring points.

Both the Kuismanen Viper and the BPO Porsche came back to the pits on trailers, but we’ll see those cars back for the race on Saturday.
